The Storm that Brought me Home

I looked outside and thought I would be okay;
The weather didn't even call for rain today.
I decided to grab my coat;
How was I to know I'd almost need a boat.
The sun was floating in the big blue sky;
Maybe with a cloud or two passing by.
There were some birds perched near a tree;
Yet still so much I didn't see.
Light grew dim;
Dark clouds blew in.
The wind was strong;
Now it wouldn't be long.
Drops began to fall;
Looks like the weatherman made another bad call.
Why did I even go out today?
Doing things I could have done another way.
A raindrop hit the tip of my nose;
Puddles are reaching above my toes.
Lightening strikes and thunders roars;
All these shops are locking their doors.
Who'd go out in all this gloom?
The sky just let out another boom.
I'd like to be back in my house;
I feel like the storm is the cat and I'm the mouse.
The wind just blew me off my feet;
Or it could be that the rain just became sleet.
Ouch, now hail begins to fall;
These pieces are far from small.
If I would have know I never would have left my porch;
I just saw someone light a torch.
Darkness fills the city;
Oh, this isn't pretty.
Lord, please get me out of here;
All I see are eyes of fear.
Take me home, out of this rain;
Please God help those in pain.
Just then I heard a friend asking if I needed a lift;
Yes, this was more than a gift.
God heard my prayer and answered my call;
Now I'm back home walking down the hall.
AMEN
